Gear Heads Only

Two cameras, one photographer: on assignment for the Denver Post, covering the late artists Christo and Jeanne Claude during the installation of The Floating Piers on Lake Iseo, Italy. While Canon's 5D Mark IV is my serious go-to system, iPhoneography is a dimension so approachable and amazing, and it’s always to hand. Pun intended!

In Bali with a bunch of artists the Mark IV equalled an introduction and welcome to all manner of traditional events and neighborhood rice field locals.

On one year’s Christmas holiday trip to Hawaii I didn’t take my Canon. Did I mention that usually I am not a landscape or nature photographer? Of course landscape is what Hawaii is all about, and the iPhone’s panoramic functionality took a large part in telling the story.

A similar usage evolved in Venice for the Biennale Art Exposition. People watching, crowds, non-stop art, tippy gondolas, exciting food, glorious history, crazy tourists. Particularly for the art in close quarters and crowds, the Mark IV sometimes gave way to iPhone snapping gallery installations and artist labels to be sure of memory.

We know all our equipment like an extension of hand and eye. Just so experience!
